Finnmap consulting Oy, the parent company of FMC Group, has developed and brought into use an internationally certified environmental management system according to ISO 14001:2004, which requires, in addition to the reduction of the effects of company's own activity on the environment, taking into account environmental aspects of the final product when designing projects for customers. Managing director Markku Varis strongly believes that the system is benefiting both the company and especially the customers' business by offering new tools for reducing environmental impacts and operating costs of the built environment.

Customer benefits from the environmentally conscious design

Finnmap Consulting Oy has given its environmental programme one central objective to reduce the normal consumption of energy in its customer projects by at least one grade of energy efficiency at least in 20 % of the building stock designed by it, without raising essentially building costs and saving lifespan costs. With these measures, Finnmap Consulting Oy attempts to become the first carbon dioxide neutral consultant company in the building area of Finland.

The reduction of one class of energy efficiency in 20 % of the designed projects signifies reduction of CO2-emissions by approx. 1,000 tn/year, which is more than the carbon dioxide load to the environment (900 tn/year) caused by activity of the whole company.
