Special award for Entertainment Centre Flamingo
Entertainment Centre Flamingo, designed by Finnmap Consulting Oy, has received a special award in the 2008 Steel Construction of the Year competition, which was organized by the Finnish Constructional Steelwork Association. Maritime Centre Wellamo in Kotka was given the 2008 Steel Construction of the Year award. The Finnish Constructional Steelwork Association awarded the top objects on the Constructional Steelwork Day on 2.12. The Finnmap Consulting Oy award was handed to Mr. Antti Vilén, manager of the House building sector.
Entertainment Centre Flamingo, which received the special award for its structural solutions, has been structurally designed by skillfully applying novel design procedures for structural analysis, as well as for the combination and documentation of plans. The force factors have been calculated using FEM analysis.
Structural safety has been the basis for the strength evaluations. Continuous collapse has been prevented by applying the principle where the collapse of one frame component does not generate a continuing collapse.
The experience and skill of the structural designer of Entertainment Centre Flamingo and the opportunities provided by modern calculation models have been successfully combined in a way which contributes to safety.
