The Eläintarha skateboarding park, Micropolis, has received a special award in the 2008 Environmental structure of the year competition. The objective of the competition, organized by Rakennustuoteteollisuus RTT and Puutarhaliitto, is to present high quality environmental systems in which good design and implementation have helped create an esthetical and sustainably functional environment.

The judges praised the skateboarding area, located next to the Helsinki Eläintarha sport field, as unique in Finnish circumstances. The various, multi-shaped, curved and rectangular features are praised, as they give the area a sculptural atmosphere.

The requirements of young users and the demand set by heavy wear were considered in the structural design of the park. The park, which was partly designed as environmental art, has received large acceptance by the skaters.
